You face these moments every day, if not several times a day.
There isn’t a trophy or award for the daily sticking to it that you do because this is what is expected of you.
The expectations are high and there is a lot on the line while operating in a space where everything has changed.
Your company is different, clients are different, employees are different and that boils down to the last 18-months has forced us to reevaluate how we do everything.
The old way of doing things is not coming back and that is for our good.
And as we face the road ahead, we cannot forget that throughout this time some of you have mourned the loss of family, friends, and colleagues. And, you still have pushed forward. Not begrudgingly, not overjoyed or negatively but as a leader that has set emotions aside and has done what is expected of you in your role, not because of the expectation but because this is who you are.
"The old way of doing things is not coming back"
Now, the time has come to have a stronger belief for your business, a belief that is communicated throughout the company. This belief isn’t the mission statement or brand message it is the standard for your company. To set the standard takes two parts the first being to gather feedback from employees and the second is to ‘make the call’.
To make the call is a term I coined to help leaders identify that moment in the day to day of the workplace when the decision that needs to be made comes on the shoulders of one person, and that individual in most cases is you. Here is something important to know ‘companies are not a democracy nor are they a dictatorship’
Agreement from your team is important, a necessary asset in the overall success of the company. However, at the end of the day, there is a final call to be made that may not align with input from others but their input is heard.
Throughout history, we have seen leaders within the public and private sector navigate these waters well with a blend of taking employee feedback and making the decisions that are best for the company.
